Townsend Tennessee Area Activities & Townsend Tn Vacation Info

You ask what is there to do here in Townsend Tn. Well, here goes and I’ll do my best to give you as much info as I can. As you probably know Cades Cove and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is minutes away and that in its self is a full vacation just to see the sights! Check out this link for info on Cades Cove here in Townsend Tn.

FISHING - We also have fishing in the Little River that flows threw it. In the Little River if you catch it just right with the weather and stocking times you might be able to catch your limit of rainbow trout. It is best if you first have to know a little about trout and how to fish for them and where to fish for them. There is bream and “redeyes” as we call them in the Little River also.

More about the Little River, well when you come to Townsend from May--Sept you will see people floating down the river on intertubes. We call it Tube’n. We used to do that as kids and never though about anybody ever making a livin renting intertubes to people so they could float down. We just went to the tire store and got an old tube or if we were really lucky we got a tube out of an airplane tire. You can rent tubes in numerous places here in townsend that will rent the tubes and shuttle you up and down the river so all you have to do is drive to their office and they will do the rest. Or you can just rent the tubes and drive yourself to a public access place in the river. You should not have any problems tubing if you can hold on you’ll be fine. Just allow plenty of time to do that. because it does take a while to float down. Just make sure you be smart and don’t go in the river after big rain or if it floods. You know there is always someone that has to prove how stu----d they really are! We also have Tuckaleechee Caverns that is something you might enjoy. A local cave that has been an attraction for as long as I can remember. So do check it out, that is a couple of hours to do that.

SWIMMING- Plenty of that can be done. Just a short walking distance from 3 of our cabins and you can go to the Emert Bluff Swimming Hole. Its got a big deep hole to swim in and ol fashion tree swing that we used to use as kids. There is also more public access up the river and in the National Park. You might want to try the Y for swimming and tubing. This is where  the hwy. splits and one side comes from The Gatlinburg side and one from the Cades Cove side.

HORSEBACK RIDING - There are several stables in Townsend where you can ride horses. All are either walking distance or just a short drive from all of our cabin rentals.
If you enjoy hiking, try one of the many trails in the area.
HIKING- Boy we have the hiking! trails, trails and more trails. All located just minutes away in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. You can pick up all the info you want about it at the rangers station at Cades Cove.

TOWNSEND BIKE TRAIL - If you can bring you bikes. you will surely want to ride the bike trail that runs from one end of Townsend Tennessee too the other. This is great, it is about 5 miles long. Very easy and for all. Mom and Dad bring the kids bikes anyway. They will love it. At least you can ware them out so you two can have some time for yourselves when they crash out that night! You can also ride though Cades Cove on Wed. and Sat. Sunrise to 10 am from mid May -- mid Sept.

TOWNSEND TENNESSEE is also just a short drive from Gatlinburg Tenn and Pigeon Forge Tenn. It is a lot different from around here and more commercialized. So if that is cup of tea check that out as well.
Tipton Cabins Poplar Place Townsend Cabin in the snow. The perfect romantic getaway!
WINTER IN TOWNSEND - In the winter is a great time to visit Townsend and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This is because the traffic is very low and there are a lot less people here then. This is our Off Season. So if you like no crowds, crisp cool air and a little snow every now and then plus lower rates give us call. I have listed some events that take place every year that I personally think you would like so you might want to plan
you vacation around them.
